Friday 6.10pm I’m putting Sundays Lucky 15 up on Friday as well. Not all the races are priced up but some of you might want to do a couple of singles now.
Sundays Lucky 15
Newmarket 2.55 EASTERN IMPACT 11/1 WH (Only firm priced up at 3pm) Now 8/1!
Newmarket 3.35 RHODODENDRON 15/8 Coral + Ladbrokes 7/4 general
Newmarket 5.20 BIN BATTUTA N/A
Hamilton 3.45 KHELMAN N/A
and here’s why
Newmarket 2.55 EASTERN IMPACT Plenty in his favour. Notebook says “Eastern Impact is a Newmarket 6F specialist, he is simply 10lb better there than anywhere else. His C&D form is 412113 and the third was in the G1 July Cup at 50/1! Group 3/Listed is about his level. He doesn’t really want Soft in the going.” Sixth in 2016 G1 July Cup only just over four lengths behind Limato. Didn’t get his ideal conditions once in 2016!”
He’ll love the ground and no surprise to see him back in this handicap as he won the race two years ago off OR104 on Good to Firm ground and spookily from the same draw, Stall 6! His mark is down 10lbs from OR112 this time last year to a current OR102 and his recent 3rd at Wolverhampton on the AW suggests he retains plenty of ability and will have set him up nicely for this. Hanagan in the saddle is another bonus.
Newmarket 3.35 RHODODENHRON I have said before on this blog that I believe Rhododenhron to be the best filly of her generation. To me she looked head and shoulders above the rest, literally and physically. Nothing in the trials this Spring have changed my mind and the only negative seems to be the market strength of her stable mate Winter. I’ll stick to the form book and my own eyes. Could go off bigger than 3/1 especially if Churchill gets beaten!
Newmarket 5.20 BIN BATTUTA Liked his run at the Craven meeting behind a blog favourite in Middle Kingdom. I wrote in the 2017 Craven preview “Remains on OR93 and for this son of Dubawi 12F would seem ideal. Entered in similar 10F race over C&D on Sunday May 7th but also has entries in Dante, Derby and King Edward VII at Royal Ascot. If he did go to Ascot but in the 12F 3yo King George V 0-105 handicap you would have to take note.” I don’t think this race is as strong as the Craven handicap. Stayed on strongly there and with Count Calcabash to set it up for him again I’m happy to support him here!
Hamilton 3.45 KHELMAN My Notebook is quite succinct here. “I will stick with Only if .. 6F, C4, OR80 or less.” He has all three conditions. He has course form here at Hamilton and Adam McNamara takes another 3lbs off! The only concern would be that he has never won on ground quicker than Good. If he goes to post that is good enough for me! Strong fancy.
