Lucky 15 March 1st

Wednesday 6.00pm Today is just so much fun with the release of the Cheltenham handicap weights, that’s TEN early price handicaps. Love it! There are horses at the top of Ante Post markets who won’t get in, some have marks OR150+ and quite a few quoted in the wrong race! Delighted to say many I’ve earmarked are in the right races on race-able marks. Need to have a long think about whether I put up Ante Post on the Blog or I wait for 6pm the night before the race when there will be excellent offers available, extra places, money back, pushes etc. etc. Today’s blog shorter than normal but Philip Hobbs never been one to use ten words when one will do.

Thursday Lucky 15

Taunton 3.35                          PULL THE CHORD                               11/4  general

Ludlow 4.00                            ROC D’ASPIS                                       7/2 general

Taunton 5.15                          SCOOBY                                              7/1 general

Ludlow 5.35                            SERENITY NOW                                  11/4 general

 and here’s why

Taunton 3.35                          PULL THE CHORD Keeps bumping into one and stayed on well behind Pougne Bobbi last time and this three miles might just be the filip he needs to get back into the winners enclosure. Richard Johnson back off the sick list and the Hobbs yard continues to bang out the winners.

Ludlow 4.00                            ROC D’ASPIS Just got to take on Dusky Lark over 3m. Won last time stepping up to 2m 4f on his first run having moved from Colin Tizzard to Robert Walford and the mulish horse back in third was Pilgrims Bay, winner of Saturdays Betbright Chase! The race fell apart and I just can’t have him getting three miles and Roc D’Aspis is a very solid alternative for a favourite pairing of mine Tom George and Adrian Heskin. Won off this mark over hurdles, jumps, stays and no issue with the ground.

Taunton 5.15                          SCOOBY Yard of Graeme McPherson and stable jockey Kielan Woods are in form, horse gets the trip and being a son of Dubai Destination should improve for Good ground, wears a hood for the first time and this could be his race.

Ludlow 5.35                            SERENITY NOW Brian Ellison sends one from Yorkshire to Ludlow and has booked Stan “winner a day” Sheppard from the Nicholls team for this C4 Conditionals handicap hurdle. This horse has been sent off at just 10/1 in C2’s recently and this looks another neat piece of placement. Drops from OR121 to OR119 and carries top weight in this 0-120.

Wednesday Lucky 15

Didn’t cost us money today (+£4) but could have been so much better having started with a decent winner but I must have been the only bloke to fancy the last two!

Wincanton 2.40                     SLEEP EASY                                         1st 6/1

Held up, rear. Progress top of straight, led going to last, cosy. Martin Pipe at Cheltenham off OR135

Musselburgh 3.00                  DOWN TIME                                       5th 11/2

Took trail, hurdled OK, beaten turning for home.

Ffos Las 3.50                           PADDYS MOTORBIKE                         2nd 4/1

Friendless. I thought 5/2 was attractive, PP put him in at 13/8! Didn’t jump the last two, stayed on, beaten just ½ length.

Musselburgh 4.00                  SUPERIOR COMMAND                      8th 7/1

Another that was 4/1 overnight and opened at 9/1 on course. 3m hurdle with no flights in straight. Silver Streak, up 20lbs, hacked up for Tom O’Brien and Tim Vaughan and a nice bit of placement and an obvious improver.

A fairly downbeat Philip Hobbs on his Cheltenham squad which is heavy on Cheltenham experience but absolutely zip in the novice events!

Philip Hobbs-atr-Tony Elves March 1st

Bold Henry He ran really well when second to Sew On Target at Chepstow last Saturday but he really wants soft ground. The Grand Annual would be a possibility but they don’t seem to get soft ground at the Festival these days and that’s what he wants. Phillip Hobbs/atr/Tony Elves March 1st

Brother Tedd He has been placed in all his chases this season and will go for the two and a half mile handicap chase. It’s a 0-140 race and he’s rated 136. Last year the last horse to get in was rated 136 so there is a possibility he might get balloted out even though he is only 4lb below top weight. Phillip Hobbs/atr/Tony Elves March 1st

Defi Du Seuil (FR) He is a definite runner in the Triumph although I have to say he does have an entry in the Supreme. Being one of JP’s it will be up the team but he has done absolutely everything right and won all his races since joining us. He has been favourite for the Triumph for a long time and I have been very pleased with his form at home since his last run. Phillip Hobbs/atr/Tony Elves March 1st

Garde La Victoire (FR) He is entered in the Champion Chase but is unlikely to run against Douvan unless it cuts up to be a few runners. He beat his stablemate Bold Henry at Sandown in January and he will probably run in either the Grand Annual or the Brown Advisory and Merriebelle Stable Plate. Phillip Hobbs/atr/Tony Elves March 1st

For Good Measure (IRE) He goes for the Pertemps Final and should run very well. He ran very well at the course in December when second to Call To Order and will hopefully be in the form to run another good race. Phillip Hobbs/atr/Tony Elves March 1st

Golden Doyen (GER) He would be my other representative in the Pertemps Final and beat For Good Measure a short head at Cheltenham in October. We hope he goes there with a very good chance too. Phillip Hobbs/atr/Tony Elves March 1st

Fingal Bay (IRE) He is probably getting a little bit long in the tooth now but he will probably take his chance in the Pertemps Final. Phillip Hobbs/atr/Tony Elves March 1st

Jerrysback (IRE) He is entered in the novices’ hurdles but and has won both of his races for us but I would think it is probably unlikely he will go. Phillip Hobbs/atr/Tony Elves March 1st

Kruzhlinin (GER) He ran at Haydock but didn’t stay three and a half miles. He would be a possibility for the Ultima Handicap Chase on the first day. Phillip Hobbs/atr/Tony Elves March 1st

Lamb Or Cod (IRE) He goes for the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Amateur Rider race. He is in good form and he could run well in that. Phillip Hobbs/atr/Tony Elves March 1st

Ozzie The Oscar (IRE) He will go for the County Hurdle. Phillip Hobbs/atr/Tony Elves March 1st

Rock The Kasbah (IRE) He won at the weekend at Chepstow we weren’t going to run but we may consider it now. He is entered in the Ultima, the JLT and the RSA. Phillip Hobbs/atr/Tony Elves March 1st

Sausalito Sunrise (IRE) He finished third at Ascot and wouldn’t be good enough for the Gold Cup. We might just run him in the Cross Country Chase. Phillip Hobbs/atr/Tony Elves March 1st Phillip Hobbs/atr/Tony Elves March 1st

Village Vic (IRE) He has run well in his three race this season which were all at Cheltenham. He hasn’t been beaten for in any of them and on good to soft ground in the BetVictor Gold Cup he failed by only neck behind Taquin Du Seuil. He will go for the Brown Advisory and Merriebelle Stable Plate. Phillip Hobbs/atr/Tony Elves March 1st

Wait For Me (FR) He has been a little disappointing so far this season but he finished fourth in the Vincent O’Brien County Hurdle last year and goes there again. Phillip Hobbs/atr/Tony Elves March 1st
