Lucky 15 January 18th

6.00pm Really mediocre fare especially for a Friday! Luckily the weekend looks excellent especially those mind expanding handicaps at Haydock and Ascot with a pair of beauties at Leopardstown on Sunday!

Musselburgh 12.50                PEPPAY LE PUGH                   7/1 WH 6/1 general

Chepstow 2.10                       BATTLE OF SHILOH                 11/4 general

Chepstow 3.20                       DR ROBIN                               9/1 WH 8/1 general

Chepstow 3.50                       EARLSHILL                               13/8 general

 and here’s why

Musselburgh 12.50                PEPPAY LE PUGH Bought at the Portensis disposal out of Nicky Henderson’s yard by Favourites Racing, new trainer David Dennis sends just this one horse from his Worcestershire base on the long haul to Scotland. Peppay le Pugh’s hurdling form has been moderate at best but he starts handicapping off OR109 in a 0-110 C4 event, he’ll enjoy the Good ground and he has Brian Hughes booked to ride. Hopefully he can start to pay off the £45K new connections paid for him.

Chepstow 2.10                       BATTLE OF SHILOH     Unbeaten in six starts, two PtP’s, two hurdles and two chases, hopefully he can make it seven here giving weight away to his eight rivals. The trip, ground and grade should hold no fears and the improving 8yo son of Shantou should continue the good run of the Rooneys and the in-form combo of trainer Tom George and jockey Adrian Heskin.

Chepstow 3.20                       DR ROBIN Peter Bowens 7yo son Of Robin des Pres is improving for chasing and has form at Chepstow to go close here. Not many ride this course better than the trainer’s son, Sean, who is once again in the saddle. The first time visor could eke out the necessary improvement to get Dr Robins head in front.

Chepstow 3.50                       EARLSHILL Irish PtP winner Earlshill was a solid second on hurdling debut at Southwell and can go one better here for family Skelton. At the time I thought it was an above average Midland’s novice hurdle although the form is hardly being franked. The step up in trip will help although Earlshill will be probably be seen at his best when he goes chasing.

Nice start, then two thirds and Royal Palladium possibly beat the ambulance home!
