Lucky 15 January 18th

5.30pm Thurles tomorrow, what a fantastic card for a Thursday! A truck load of Willie Mullins inmates, a cracking 3m novice’s hurdle, the 2m 4f Kinloch Brae and a mouth-watering hunter chase. It’s moderate fare in the UK at Ludlow and Wincanton and don’t look at Meydan as there will be at least a dozen horses running that owe you money from last summer’s Flat season!!

Thurles 1.10                THE STORYTELLER                  3/1 general

Wincanton 1.40         WALT                                         9/4 WH 2/1 general

Thurles 1.45                TINOS TANK                           11/2 general

Ludlow 3.35                ROYAL PALLADIUM                8/1 PP 6/1 general

 and here’s why

Thurles 1.10                THE STORYTELLER A strong notebook horse. Has run against the likes of Monalee, Tarcagua and Monbeg Notorious and was mightily impressive when winning at Down Royal last time. Willie Mullins trained Battleford makes the market and at around 3/1 The Storyteller is good value for Gordon Elliott and Jack Kennedy to once again rattle the Closutton cage!

Wincanton 1.40         WALT  Won well last time and stays in the same grade with Mr James King, a competent amateur, taking off seven pounds of the eight he was put up. Neil Mulhollands yard remains on song and Walt jumps well, stays well and improving. That’ll do for me!

Thurles 1.45                TINOS TANK Has the form in the book and the return of Davy Russell in the saddle is enough to make him the selection.

Ludlow 3.35                ROYAL PALLADIUM Plenty of faith in the horse, who has won already this season. The trip, grade and ground all look OK. The unknown to me is the pilot, Miss L.M.Turner claiming 7lb. Research tells me she has had ten previous rides for the yard, winning once. She doesn’t seem to be related to the connections so we’ll trust Venetia Williams judgement.

Wednesday

Just why I love a Lucky 15 with guaranteed odds! One winner @11/2 and it’s money back and a little on top. Noel Fehily gave Brandon Hill a peach of a ride and the horse was determined on the run in. Disappointed with Kilcrea Vale, especially as we had 2/1! Movie Legend didn’t have the flat speed of 4yo Neitzsche. They are still looking for Attimo!

Market Rasen 2.40                 KILCREA VALE                           2/1 general                        2nd Evs!

Newbury 2.55                        BRANDON HILL                      6/1 PP 5/1 general          1st 11/2

Market Rasen 3.15                 ATTIMO                                  9/4 Ladbrokes                   4th 11/4

Market Rasen 3.45                 MOVIE LEGEND                      11/4 PP                                3rd 9/4
