6pm Currently it would seem that I’m putting in more effort than the selections! So Joe I’ve had an extra banana and we’ll have a crack at Catterick, snow permitting!
Catterick 1.50 NINE ALTARS 5/1 general
Catterick 2.50 STRAIDNAHANNA 10/1 general
Catterick 3.20 REILLYS MINOR 11/4 general
Catterick 3.50 WILLIAM OF ORANGE 7/1 general
and heres why
Catterick 1.50 NINE ALTARS Third over course and distance earlier in the season, down three pounds in the handicap the Norths top jockey, Brian Hughes may very well make every yard with this reliable jumper on a course that suits front runners
Catterick 2.50 STRAIDNAHANNA Only 4lbs higher than winning over half a mile shorter over the course last February, indeed has won on both of his visits to Catterick. You certainly can’t fault the form of the Sue Smith yard and her jockey Danny Cook in these staying chases.
Catterick 3.20 REILLYS MINOR In form trainer Warren Greatrex seems to have found the ideal race for this progressive Westerner gelding. He steps up another six furlongs here but the further he goes the better he gets. The booking of top claimer Harry Cobden catches the eye and his three pound claim will help offset the six pounds he went up for winning last time.
Catterick 3.50 WILLIAM OF ORANGE This is certainly the weakest race he’s run in for a while, he won his maiden hurdle here and Will Kennedy has ridden five winners for Donald McCain in the past fortnight. Trip and ground shouldn’t be a problem.
Taunton 1.05 ALL KINGS Pulled Up Backed from 5’s into 11/4 favourite and… dreadful. 8yo acts like a 2yo but definitely something wrong physically or mentally.
Taunton 2.10 TROIKA STEPPES 4th 17/2 Every chance, headed three out and faded
Taunton 2.40 RESOLUTION BAY 5th 9/2 Jumped better but beaten two out, made mistake, eased
Taunton 3.40 MAGNUS ROMEO 8th 9/1 weakened three out
